Salt Lake County treats dogs on restaurant patios as something a restaurant has to apply for. Each one submits a plan, pays a fee and passes a patio inspection, and the approval lasts for one summer dining season. For 2026, 49 places across the county hold that approval. This list picks nine of them in Salt Lake City, plus the two closest to Lehi.

Before you go

The county approval covers the summer patio season, so in late fall and winter a patio may be closed or no longer taking dogs. Call or check the restaurant's own page before you drive over.

The rules for dogs on Salt Lake County patios

These come from the Salt Lake County Health Department's 2026 announcement:

  • Dogs stay on a leash.
  • Collars carry a current license and a rabies tag.
  • No dogs on tables or chairs.
  • Water in a disposable container is fine. Food is not, and that includes dog food and treats.
  • Dogs stay on the patio and don't go inside.

Dog-friendly restaurants and bars in Salt Lake City

All nine are on the county's 2026 dog-patio list. They are grouped loosely by neighborhood, so you can pair a walk with a stop.

Granary District · 320 W 800 S, Salt Lake City

A brewery taproom that calls its patio dog-friendly on its own site, with beer to go.

Handlebar

Marmalade · 751 N 300 W, Salt Lake City

A bar with a year-round patio. Its site welcomes licensed, vaccinated dogs on the patio, on a leash and wearing their tags.

Tea Zaanti

A tea shop that lists a dog-friendly patio on its site. Closed Mondays.

A brewery a few blocks from Fisher, so the two make an easy pair.

Mountain West Hard Cider

Marmalade · 425 N 400 W, Salt Lake City

A cidery close to Handlebar, on the north side of downtown.

Uinta Brewhouse Pub

West side, by the brewery · 1722 S Fremont Dr, Salt Lake City

The pub at Uinta's brewery. It is 21 and over only.

Lehi and Utah County

Lehi is in Utah County, so the Salt Lake County list does not cover it. Utah's food code does let any restaurant in the state allow dogs on an outdoor patio if it meets a set of conditions: a separate outdoor entrance to the patio, posted signs, leashed dogs with a rabies tag, no food prep on the patio and no dogs on the furniture.

We looked for Lehi, American Fork, Orem and Provo restaurants that state a dog-patio policy on their own site or in local press, and could not confirm one. Some may well say yes when you ask, so call before you go.

The closest places on Salt Lake County's list are in Draper, about 12 miles north of Lehi on I-15:

Hash Kitchen

Draper · 264 E 12300 S, Draper

A brunch-only restaurant. Its location page lists breakfast and lunch hours, so go early.

Gourmandise

Draper · 725 E 12300 S, Draper

The Draper location of Gourmandise. Its downtown Salt Lake City location, at 250 S 300 E, is on the list too.

If you are staying with us, the other option is dinner at the house. Our suite has a grill and a fire table in a fully fenced yard, so the dog can be off leash while you eat. The house rules ask that dogs are not left alone in the suite, which is one more reason the patio and the yard are worth planning around.

Frequently Asked Questions

Are dogs allowed on restaurant patios in Salt Lake City?

Only at places with a county variance. Salt Lake County approves restaurants one summer dining season at a time, and 49 hold a variance for 2026. Dogs must be leashed, wear a current license and rabies tag, and stay off tables and chairs.

Can my dog have a treat or a pup cup on a Salt Lake County patio?

No. The county's rules say dogs can be given water in a disposable container but may not eat food, including dog food or treats, on a restaurant patio.

Are there dog-friendly restaurants in Lehi?

Utah's food code lets a restaurant allow dogs on an outdoor patio if it meets a list of conditions, but we could not find a Lehi restaurant that publishes a dog-patio policy. Call ahead. The closest places on Salt Lake County's list are in Draper, about 12 miles north of Lehi.
